Norris Temples

Norris Temples, son of the late Elmer Temples and Miza Garner Temples, was born on Nov. 6, 1917, near Dexter and died in his residence at rural Dudley on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at the age of 89.

Mr. Temples attended the People's Full Gospel Assembly Church at Dudley, was a retired backhoe operator, farmer and a resident of rural Dudley.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Thrower on Nov. 23, 1937, at Dexter. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17,1986. He then married Thelma Swift on Nov. 24, 1986, at Dudley, and she survives.

Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Gary Temples of Dexter, Norris "Bud" Temples, Jr. and Clifford Temples, both of Dudley; two daughters, Barbara Taylor and Carolyn Sue Sadler, both of St. Charles; three step-sons, Luther Junior Swift, David Swift and Michael Swift, all of Decatur, Ill.; two step-daughters, Audery Mendenall and Debbie Woods, both of Decatur, IIl.; one brother, Leo Temples of Wappapello; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson; and two sisters, Geneva Temples and Velma Rowe.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Collins officiating.

Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery.
