Samuel Huey Hector, 82, of New Madrid was born March 24, 1925, in Kaiser, Ark., to the late Samuel McCormick Hector and Della Bell Hector and died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, from a vehicle accident near Matthews, Mo.

Mr. Hector was a U.S. Army World War II veteran receiving a purple heart and bronze star. He was a member of the American Legion post 595, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans Association.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Westcoat Hector of New Madrid; four sons, Samuel D. Hector of Dexter, Ricky Hector of Wappapello, Randy A. Hector of Malden and Timmy Hector of Essex; one daughter, Charlotte Yvonne Morris of Dexter; one brother, Charles Troy Hector of Washington; one sister, Icy Minor of Alabama; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nell Walker.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
