Charles Taylor, 86, of Essex was born in Essex on Dec. 29, 1920, to the late W.R. Taylor and Mary Caoline McMullin Taylor, and died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He attended Essex Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1939. On Jan. 24, 1942, he was married to Merle Smith at Bloomfield. He attended the Essex United Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer and cattleman in partnership with his brothers in Taylor Brothers Farms and Taylor Brothers Angus Farms. He was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. Mr. Taylor also took great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of the home and three children, Ronald Taylor of Dexter, Deena (Mrs. Billy Kelley) and Marsha (Mrs. Kenneth Keller), both of Essex; seven grandchildren, Leslie, Haley, Andy, Erik and Kurt Kelley, Carrie Wyman, Sarah Porter and Rachel Keller; eight great-grandchildren, Logan and Morgan Haley, Ryan Kelley, Drew and Kole Kelley, Kate and Joe Wyman, Alex Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Max, Tom, Howard and Jim Taylor; four sisters, Maurine Taylor, Lollie Chrisman, Mary Vinson, and Grace Stuart.

Visitation will be held from noon until 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Roy Sherfield officiating.

Interment will be at the Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Essex United Methodist Church, Stoddard County Children's Home, or charities of choice.
