Anna Laura Vails, daughter of the late David and Lydia Newman Cox, was born in Corinth, Miss., on May 27, 1922, and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Aug. 23, 2007, at the age of 85.
Mrs. Vails had lived in the Essex and Dexter area all her life and had lived in Dexter since 1986. She attended the Vinson General Baptist Church near Essex.
On Feb. 24, 1940, he was married to Harley E. Vails, Sr. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2002.
Surviving are five daughters, B.J. Vails of Cape Girardeau, Peggy Rehkop of St. Charles, Shirley Blair of Columbia, Kimberly Neppl of Naperville, Ill., Sheila Vails of Dexter; three sons, Darrell Vails of Jackson, Tenn., Junior Vails of Dexter, Michael Vails of Morehouse; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Cox of Danville, Va., and Travis Cox of Sikeston.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Thurman, David, James, Howard and Truman Cox.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
