Stoddard County native turned author James Childers is on cloud nine!

Childers finished writing his first book 'Wooden Spiders' earlier this year. The book has since been published and was officially released to the public this past Monday.

When asked what category 'Wooden Spiders' would fall into, Childers said, "Suspense, mystery, thriller, murder, it's got it all!"

In the small town of Grudge, there lives a man who likes to play with magic. This man crosses paths with a wooden spider that has been cursed with unexplained powers. Anyone coming into contact with the spider has the power to kill with it. Replica spiders are made and that's where the problems really begin to escalate.

Some of the people that have already read 'Wooden Spiders' compare Childers' imagination in story telling to Stephen King.

Childers started writing short stories at a young age. Growing up with brothers and a sister with good imaginations got him interested in writing. "Sometimes things would just pop into my head," said Childers, "so, I would write them down."

Family has always been a source of inspiration and influence for Childers. He said, "My family has always given me positive and constructive criticism. Some of the ideas I recited derived from them."

Another influential person in Childers' writings is Michael Todd Burns. Burns is also a published author who resides in Dexter. "He [Burns] and I will toss ideas back and forth," said Childers, "and see what becomes of them."

After graduating from Dexter High School in 1999, Childers tried to get several short stories published but was denied. "Later I came up with the idea to merge all of them into 'Wooden Spiders', said Childers. The idea turned out to be a good one. PublishAmerica, a book publishing company based in Frederick, Maryland, published the book and is making it available in both the United States and Europe.

'Wooden Spiders' can be purchased at Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, Walden Book Stores or at www.publishamerica.com

Childers is already hard at work on his next book, which will be a spinoff of 'Wooden Spiders'.

I've known James for MANY years and I am so happy that he has been able to capture his creativity and imagination in a book. He always had big dreams of things of this nature and I am just happy as can be that they are coming true for him! Cheers to you, James!

So........If I bought this book, would you autograph it for me? I'd be honored to know that one of my former students has such clam to fame! You'll know me as the one who edited many of your early writings. Let's see........I'd be the one checking for capitalization, punctuation, verb tensing and those crazy run-on sentences. And back in 1999, I knew you had a creative flair. Hats off to you, James. Hello to you sister and your mother.
