Gladys Mae Mallory

Gladys Mae Mallory, daughter of the late James Edwin and Lilly Irene Bright Mardis, was born in Fairbury, Ill., on Sept. 27, 1937, and died at her home in Dexter on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at the age of 69.

Mrs. Mallory had lived in Dexter since 1969. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter. Her bravery and courage throughout her life was an inspiration to everybody she met and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

On Feb. 10, 1957, she was married to Duane K. Mallory in Bloomington, Ill. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1995.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Andy Eubanks of Pineville, La., Lori and Melvin Davis of Crossville, Tenn., and Karen and Willie Fortman of Dexter; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Alvin and Richard Mardis of Bloomington, Ill., Larry Mardis of Jonesboro, Ga., Edward Mardis of Escondido, Calif.; three sisters, Jewell Brown and Shirley Sullivan of Bloomington, Ill., and Juanita Malcom of Heyworth, Ill.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Roger Mardis.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Danny Collins of Broseley officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
