Gilbert Duane Marler Jr., son of Gilbert Marler Sr. of Poplar Bluff and Linda Faulkner Thompson of Sulligent, Ala., was born on Nov. 3, 1968, at Rockford, Ill., and died near Bloomfield on Sept. 23, 2007, as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident at the age of 38.

Mr. Marler was a self-employed truck driver and a resident of rural Essex.

He was united in marriage to Laurie Sherwood on July 31, 2004, at Essex. Mrs. Marler survives of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his father and step-mother, Gilbert Marler, Sr. and Jeanie of Poplar Bluff; his mother and step-father, Linda Thompson and John of Sulligent, Ala.; three step-sons, Robert Metz and Christopher Metcalf, both of Essex, and James Metcalf of Heinsville, Ga.; two step-daughters, Angela Turner of Circle City and Krystal Thomas of Muldraugh, Ky.; his paternal grandmother, Glenda Marler of Greenville; three brothers, Bobby Williams of Dexter, Jimmy Moss of Hopedale, Ill., and Jimmy Williams; four sisters, Paula Peterson and Bridgett Barnhill, both of Poplar Bluff, Sheila Adams of Fredericktown and Raquel Cumby of Norwood; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Cynthia Weaver; his step-father, Albert Williams; and one brother, Donald Eugene Marler.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Ridge Cemetery near Greenville.
