Genalee Jeanette Jarrell, daughter of the late Orlando and Kathleen Brooks Smith, was born in Lavalla, Mo., Feb. 27, 1935, and died at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at the age of 72.

Mrs. Jarrell had spent her childhood in Essex, had lived in St. Louis, was a resident of Barstow, Calif., from 1987 to 1994 and was currently a resident of Dexter. She was a retired rate clerk with Yellow Freight and attended the Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Jarrell of Dexter and David Jarrell of Barstow, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Harold Smith of Casatt, S.C., and Terry Smith of Decatur, Ill.; seven sisters, June Skaggs of Drumright, Okla., Etta Tally and Louise Turin, both of St. Louis, Irene Crader of Hickory, Miss., Doris Guttry of Northtown, Penn., Madonna Schoen of New Berlin, Ill., and Gwendolyn Smith of Vandalia, Ill.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Hickman Smith; and one sister, Sonda Douglass.

Visitation will be held after 12 p.m. (noon) Monday, Oct. 1, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Phil Warren of Dexter officiating.
