James William Newton Gant, son of Marvin Henry and Mary Jane Bell Gant, was born in Saltillo, Tenn., on Sept. 20, 1921, and died at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the age of 86.
Mr. Gant had lived in various states including three years in Alaska. He met and married Danny Daniels in California and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where he spent many years. His wife preceded him in death on April 11, 2002. He moved to Dudley in 2005 to be close to his family.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruby Holman of Visalia, Calif., and Viola Williams of Springdale, Ark. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bruce, Roy and Aubrey Gant; and two sisters, Beulah Morgan and Annie Mae Matthews.
Visitation was held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Chaplain Cotus James of Bloomfield officiating.
Interment followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 59.
Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
