Mabel McGowen, daughter of the late William Everett Boone and Minnie Kelley Boone, was born on Nov. 2, 1925, in Stoddard County and died at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the age of 81.

Mrs. McGowen had lived in Malden before moving to Jonesboro in 1984. She worked several years for DuKane Corporation and was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

She was united in marriage to Lawrerence H. McGowen on Nov. 6, 1943, at Piggott, Ark. Mr. McGowen preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1984.

Survivors include four daughters, Norma King, Nancy Perry and Jeanie Glasco, all of Jonesbor, Ark., and Theresa McGowen of Cortland, Ill.; one sister, Thelma Crabtree of Poplar Bluff; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents and her husband by one son, Jimmy Hartford McGowen; two sisters, Louise Barnes and Joyce Massingill; and one brother, Bill Nunn.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Elvis Brandon officiating.

Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
