James "Sonny" Hatchel

James "Sonny" Hatchel, son of the late Orval Hudgens and Mable Hatchel Hudgens, was born on Nov. 23, 1942 at Charter Oak and died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 64.

Mr. Hatchel was a retired truck driver for the Southeast Co-Op, a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam, a member of the Morley V.F.W., and a resident of Dexter.

On Dec. 17, 1970, he was united in marriage to Donna Welch in Sikeston. Mrs. Hatchel survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, survivors include one step-son, Donald Welch of Bloomfield; two brothers, Larry Hudgens of Simmesport, La., and Dan Hudgens of Dexter; one sister, Linda Mayberry of Republic; one granddaughter, Donna Durham and husband Josh of Dexter; and two great-grandchildren, Destiny and Alexis Durham, both of Dexter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Hudgens.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, in the Dexter Cemetery with Pastor Rick Roberts officiating.
