Ruth B. Evans, daughter of the late James and Dora Doris Peck, was born in Essex on Sept. 14, 1917, and died at Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at the age of 90.

Mrs. Evans lived in Essex her entire life. She was a retired self-employed beautician. She was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church near Essex.

On Sept. 10, 1938, she was married to Hollon G. "Hob" Evans at Charleston. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1988.

Surviving are one son, Perry Evans and his wife Marlene of Smithland, Ky.; two grandchildren, Kevin Evans and J.P. Evans of Essex; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Pansy Hutchcraft of Dexter; several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Eldon Stafford of Essex.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Stan K. Evans; one daughter, Lavonda Evans; two brothers, Vernie and Leonard Peck; two sisters, Ollie West and Jenny Lemons.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. W.H. Worth of Essex and Rev. Miles Meadows of Dudley officiating.

Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
