J.V. Barnett was born July 21, 1943, in Arlberg, Ark., and died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at his residence in Fisk. He had lived around Fisk most of his life.

He was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ and drove the church bus for 20 years.

He had worked in the motor pool for the City of Poplar Bluff and retired in September 2006.

On Sept. 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Gillespie, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Lisa Asher and husband George of Poplar Bluff and Rhonda Estep of Fisk; one son, Terry Batten of Athens, Ala. and his wife Dixie; three brothers, Dene Barnett of Clinton, Ark., Orbin Barnett of Poplar Bluff and wife Bonnie, and Shelby Barnett of Oregon; three sisters, Wanda Lee Garner of Walla Walla, Wash., Stella Huey of Clinton, Ark., and Verda Collins of Conway, Ark. and husband Rick; two sisters-in-law, Margie Barnett of Clinton, Ark., Gwen Barnett of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Thomas, Miranda, Jason, Damon, Shannon, Cheyenne, and Samantha; and one great-grandchild, Caleb.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Barnett; three brothers, Charley, Elijah and Clayton; two sisters, Janice D. Barnett and Lorene Parker; and his parents, James Alfred and Vernie Belle McMurtry Barnett.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at White-Sanders Funeral Home at Fisk with Travis Quertermous officiating.
