Jimmie Dale Matthews, son of the late Sam Matthews and Vealer McBroom Matthews, was born on Jan. 5, 1936, at Acorn Ridge and died in the Festus Manor at Festus on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at the age of 71.

Mr. Matthews was a retired supervisor with the Missouri Department of Transportation, a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge #532, and a former resident of rural Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Noyes on June 20, 1959, at Dexter. Mrs. Matthews preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2005.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Matthews and wife, Rena of Hillsboro; two granddaughters, Katie Matthews and Jessica Matthews; one sister, Norma Ridings of St. Peters.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. Matthews and Sammy Matthews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - noon Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Dan Sitze officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
