Elaine Choate

Ellen "Elaine" Choate, 62, of Sedgewickville lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at her home.

She was born May 1, 1945, in Bloomfield, daughter of Norman I. and Clara B. Capps Magee. She and Carl L. Choate were married Oct. 4, 1964.

Elaine was a member of Fruitland Community Church and was a former Sunday School teacher. She and Carl had lived in Scott City for 37 years and in 2006 they moved to Sedgewickville. Elaine was the manager of Parkwood Manor in Cape Girardeau for 12 years and later worked for the Community Counseling Center in Cape Girardeau for 13 years. Throughout her life she was devoted to serving others.

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years; four sons, Gregory C. (Catherine) Choate of Cape Girardeau, Geoffrey A. Choate of Sedgewickville, Nathaniel I. Choate and Joshua S. (Jenine) Choate of Scott City; one brother, Donald (Vertaree) Magee of Oak Ridge; and one sister, Carol (Bob) Vandiver of Bloomfield. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Elaine was preceded in death by one son Derek L. Choate in 1968.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, from 12:30 " 2 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, with the Pastor Mike Parry officiating.
