Sherman C. Rogers
Sherman C. Rogers, son of the late Lewis J. Rogers and Doris Hazel Beach Rogers, was born on March 17, 1917, at Freeland, Mich., and died in the St. John's Mercy Hospital at Washington on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the age of 90.

Mr. Rogers was a member of the Community Church of Christ at Lowndes, a retired welder, a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II, a former resident of Dexter and a current resident of New Haven.

He was first united in marriage to Kathleen Revoir in June 1937 at Esty, Mich. She preceded him in death in May 1963. He then married Nema Bagwell on Feb. 10, 1964, at Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1997.

He is survived by four sons, Dean Rogers of Alvarado, Texas, Neal Rogers of Chaffee, David Rogers of New Haven and Noah Rogers of Dexter; three daughters, Nancy Tonkins of Dexter, Martha McCarthy of Lowndes and Nellie Greenlee of Puxico; one step-son, Jack Bagwell of East Prairie; two brothers, Arthur Rogers and Jack Rogers, both of Lowndes; four sisters, Dorothy Billingsley and Lottie Meese, both of Lowndes; Annabell Schearer of Midland, Mich., and Darlene Ross of Dexter; 43 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides two wives and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Rogers; three daughters, Evelyn Slaughter, Shirley Propst and Beverly Pittman; three grandchildren; four brothers, Russell McClean, Richard Rogers, Lewis Rogers and Charles Rogers; and one sister, Leona Chubb.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Jack Rogers officiating.

Interment followed in the Community Church of Christ Cemetery at Lowndes.
