James Cato, son of the late Sylvester and Leona Bennett Cato, was born in Greenbriar on Sept. 13, 1927, and died at the St. Alexius Hospital in St. Louis on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007,at the age of 80.
Mr. Cato had lived in Kinder until moving to St. Louis in 1951. He was retired after 33 years as a machine operator for McCabe-Powers Body in St. Louis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren.
On Nov. 6, 1948, he was married to Essye Mae Watson in Bloomfield. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, James Cato of St. Louis and Larry Cato of Cibola, Texas; four daughters, Beverly Engler, Barbara Seaton, LeDeana Stahl and LeDonna Cato, all of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Winford Cato of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Truman and Hadley Cato; and one sister, Pearlene Cato.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with Bro. Dale Holman of Sturdivant officiating.
Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery near Arab with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
