Jerry Spears, son of Verla V. Allard Spears of Dexter and the late LeRoy Spears, was born on Aug. 6, 1939, in Steele and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Dec. 20, 2007, at the age of 68.

Mr. Spears was a former employee with Chrysler at North Carolina as a machinist and a current resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Judith Young on Oct. 13, 1984, in Dillon, S.C. Mrs. Spears preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2000.

Besides his mother, Verla V. Spears of Dexter, other survivors include two sons, Jerry M. Spears of Hornersville and LeRoy L. Spears of Nappanee, Indi.; two daughters, Sharon Ogden of Navarre, Fla., and Linda Esch of Middlebury, Ind.; one step-daughter Sylvia Young; one brother, Grady Spears of Dexter; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers at infancy and by one grandson.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 12-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007.

Funeral services were then conducted on Sunday. Dec. 23, 2007, at 1 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

Interment followed at the Dunklin County Memorial Gardens in Kennett.
