John W. Musgrave, Jr., son of the late John W., Sr., and Rosa Ann Masterson Musgrave, was born in Bernie on Dec. 5, 1929, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the age of 78.

Mr. Musgrave had grown up in Idalia, moved to Flint, Mich., for several years, and returned to Dexter in 1952. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for Foster Land Grading. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting arrowheads, collecting coins, gardening, going to flea markets and playing with his grandchildren.

On May 29, 1948, he was married to Bonnie Brown in Piggott, Ark.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Musgrave of Dexter; five daughters, DeAnna Rogers, Barbara Karmas and Rose Marie Jackson, all of Dexter, Dana Hux of Essex, and Debbie Cantrell of Bloomfield; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rema Lang and Shirley Christman, both of Dexter, Imogean Harper of Bloomfield, and Melba Billsbrough of Swartz Creek, Mich.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Joe and Owen Musgrave; and three sisters, Kathern Boyt, Blanche Scates and Irene Balkenbush.

Visitation was held after 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Jack Rogers and Bro. Dale Rogers, both of Dexter, officiating.

Interment followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of arrangements.
