Lelia Backfisch, daughter of the late Fred Sauer and Minnie P. Dietsch Sauer, was born on Oct. 12, 1915, in Dexter and died at the Golden Living Center in Dexter on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Backfisch was a member ofthe Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, former store clerk at Weber's Ben Franklin Store, and a resident of Dexter.
On March 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to George Henry Backfisch in Dexter. Mr. Backfisch preceded her in death on June 27, 1982.
Survivors include three sons, James Backfisch of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Mike Backfisch and Don Backfisch both of Dexter; one daughter, Frances Montgomery, of Dexter; two sisters, Martha Guethle of Dexter and Benetta Svoboda of Avenely, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Backfisch; one brother, Albert Sauer; five sisters, Theresta Riechert, Margaret Olliges, Peggy Bower, Helen Wickham, and Anna May Guethle.
Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. A Prayer Service was conducted on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Father David Dohogne officiating.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with Father David Dohogne officiating.
Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
