Mrs. Rebecca Dalene "Dee" Clayton of Dexter, formerly of Wardell, was born June 27, 1919 at Dexter and died Jan. 25, 2008, at Dexter. She was 88.
Dee, along with her late husband, Ulis, owned and operated B and B Grocery, managed the New Madrid Country Club and sold real estate. She also sold Tupperware and was a member of the Caruthersville First Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Albert Lee and Ethel Ada Harris Thomasson. She was united in marriage to Ulysses W. Clayton on April 28, 1967, in Caruthersville, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2004. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Stoker and Carol Underwood; two great-grandchildren, Charles Carroll and Jonathan Bradley Ledbetter; and two brothers, Billy Jeff and Charles Thomasson.
Survivors include five children, Judith Acord of Dexter; Shelly Fisher and her husband Jake of Portageville, Mike Clayton and his wife Linda of Hayti, Bill Clayton and his wife Margaret of Wardell, and Diane Hensley of Wardell; 11 grandchildren, Teresa Smith, Russell Stoker, Kris Underwood, Stacey Young, Stephanie White, Matt Clayton, Tiffany Ledbetter, Tara Moody, Tracey Maddock, Kim Gilmore, and Danny Hensley; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at the Wardell Baptist Church with Bro. Griff Walker and Bro. Roger Wooten officiating.
Interment was in the Little Prairie Cemetery in Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Brad Ledbetter, Mark Moody, Danny Hensley, Matt Clayton, Russell Stover, and Lewis Gilmore.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of services.
