Mr. Abbott had lived south of Grayridge before moving to Advance where he lived from 1970 to 1974. He then moved near Salcedo. He had worked as a farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
On Jan. 23, 1939, he was married to Flossie Byrd in Grayridge.
Surviving are his wife, Flossie Abbott of Salcedo; two daughters, Linda Bess of Advance and Barbara Day of Jay, Okla.; two sons, Eugene Abbott of Morehouse and Larry Abbott of Sikeston; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Phillis Ann Abbott, Fay Sue Abbott, and Harry Lee Abbott; two brothers, James and Chester Abbott; one sister, Francis Elfrink; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. W.H. Worth of Essex and Rev. Mike Abbott of Aquilla officiating.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
