John F. Shipman

John Shipman, son of the late Charles Eugene and Ruby Opal Stoker Shipman, was born on Oct. 29, 1936, in Dexter and died at his residence in Dexter on Feb. 6, 2008, at the age of 71.

Mr. Shipman was a retired engineer for Elder Manufacturing, a veteran of the United States National Guard, a member of the Elks and NRA, a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, and an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.

He was united in marriage to Mary "Joyce" Walker on July 21, 1968, in Bloomfield. Mrs. Shipman preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2000.

He is survived by two sons, Shannon Shipman of Dexter and Anthony Sean Shipman of Dexter; three daughters, Theresa Ross Williamson of Houston, Texas, Ronda Ross Palmer of Sikeston and Lisa Rose of Dexter; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Williamson, Ross and Casey Palmer, Stephanie, Amy and Jeffrey Rose, Elizabeth Crone and Emma Shipman; three great-grandchildren, McKenna Veladze and Hailey and Bradley Williamson; and one sister, JoAnn Keller of Farmington.

Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one son, Danny Ross.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
