Velma Alene Tucker

Velma Alene Tucker, the daughter of the late Henry and Nola McDaniel Wicker, was born in Hardin Co., Tenn., Oct. 6, 1914, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at the age of 93.

Mrs. Tucker had lived in Caruthersville, Mo., where she lived until moving to Dexter in 1951. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

On Aug. 21, 1937, she was married to James Alvin Tucker in Caruthersville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1992.

Surviving are two sons, James Tucker and Glen Tucker, both of Dexter; two daughters, Betty Barks and Nola Cotner, both of Hecker, Ill.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Herschel Wicker of Sulpher, Okla., Vernon Wicker of Cahokia, Ill., Hayes Wicker of St. Peters, Mo., Ernest Wicker of Little Rock, Ark.; and one sister, Zelma Elder of Bloomfield.

She was preceded in death one grandson, Charles Barks; four brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with the Rev. Don Kennedy of Dexter officiating.

Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
