He served in the Army National Guard. Jim was self-employed in the optical business (Eye-Spectrum) in Memphis, Tenn. for over 20 years. Following, he was successful in the insurance business and as a private investigator. Jim loved to cook gourmet meals and gardening. He was also an assistant coach on his son's basketball and baseball teams.
Mr. Neal was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Neal and his grandparents. Survivors include one son, James Blake Neal of Maryville, Tenn., two daughters, Jonna Steinforth of Natchez, Miss. and Jessica Neal of Maryville, Tenn; his mother, Mabel Payne Neal; two sisters, Ruth Sivley and Vicki Davison; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville, Tenn. with Rev. Hopper officiating. A private interment followed at Grandview Cemetery.
