Geneva Mercer, daughter of the late Henry Ross Ashworth and Dicia Lillie Sisco Ashworth, was born on Jan. 14, 1918, at Muskogee, Okla., and died in the Golden Living Center at Dexter on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the age of 90.
Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Dexter Church of God, and faith played an important role in her life. She was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.
She was united in marriage to Roy Mercer on Oct. 30, 1934, at Okemah, Okla. Mr. Mercer preceded her in death on June 25, 1984.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Mercer of Bloomfield; two daughters, Belva McCoy of Rockwall, Texas, and Shirley Sullivan of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Billy James Ashworth of Bristow, Okla.; one sister, Sylvia Long of Tecumseh, Okla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Famous Leroy Ashworth.
Visitation was held from 2-2:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Leonard Madigan officiating.
Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
