Mr. Mekan was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He retired from Union Electric of St. Louis, was of the Assembly of God faith and was a resident of Malden.
He is survived by three brothers, Doyle Mekan of Arnold, Donald Mekan of St. Charles, and Gene Mekan of Bernie; three sisters, Vivian Aungst of Scottsdale, Ariz., Wanda Stephens of Gilbert, Ariz., and Doris Glass of Bernie.
He was preceded in death other than by his parents by one brother, Herbert Randolph Mekan.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ivan Mekan officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in rural Dexter.
