James D. Carney, son of the late James H. Carney and Alice Rebecca Aarant Carney, was born on Nov. 26, 1938 at Dexter and died on March 2, 2008 in the Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at the age of 69.

Mr. Carney was of the Baptist faith, a former meat packer, the former manager of the Astro Bowl in Dexter, the former Building Inspector for the City of Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

Survivors include two sons, Paul D. Carney of St. Peters and Nathan D. Carney of Kansas City, KS; by one daughter, Jamie McLane of McKinney, TX; by one brother, Kenneth L. Carney of Bloomfield; by three sisters, Phyllis Stewart of Dexter, Brenda Eldred of Springfield and Rebecca Carney Stewart of Lake Havasu, AZ; by eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Carney; by one sister, Linda Fulkerson.

Visitation will be held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dr. John Carney officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
