Johnny Grubbs, son of the late Callie Grubbs and Pearl Ellis Grubbs, was born on July 26, 1920, in Essex and died at his residence in Dexter on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the age of 87.

Mr. Grubbs attended Sweet Prospect General Baptist Church, a former carpet layer for Morgan Furniture in Dexter for 23 years, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Edge on Dec. 20, 1944, in Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Grubbs survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, Mildred Grubbs, other survivors include five sons, Farrell Grubbs of Puxico, Darrell Grubbs of Sikeston, Gary Grubbs of Campbell, Keith Grubbs of Dexter, and Randy Grubbs of Bloomfield; three daughters, Kathleen Dover, Linda Campbell, and Carol Hutchcraft, all of Dexter; one brother, Jake Grubbs of Dexter; also by 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Grubbs; two brothers, Loyd Grubbs and Oakley Grubbs; and three sisters, Theda Reynolds, Edna Williamson, and Polly Ross.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
