James Henry Stanfield

James Henry Stanfield, son of the late James Henry Stanfield and Inez Pyle Stanfield was born on Feb. 23, 1930, in Bernie, and died at his home in Bernie on March 14, 2008, at the age of 78.

Mr. Stanfield had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, was owner and operator of Stanfields Zephyr in Bernie until his retirement and was a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Doris Phillips on May 15, 1952. She preceded her husband in death on May 19, 1973. He was united in marriage to Betty Edmonds on March 6, 2002, in Bernie.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Stanfield of Bernie: five sons, Larry Crippen of Texas, Dennis Crippen of Dexter, Donald Stanfield of Springfield, Jim Stanfield of Bernie, and Glen Stanfield of Dexter; one step-son, Chris Mekan of Dexter; two step-daughters, Rhonda Arnold of Poplar Bluff and Theresa Atchison of Bernie; two brothers, Sam Stanfield of Auburn Hills, Mich. and Delbert Stanfield of Whitelake, Mich.; one sister, Thelma Reynolds of Warren, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Other than by his parents and his first wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Mitchell Stanfield.

Visitation was held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2008.

Funeral services were conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, 2008, at 2 p.m.

Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
