Betty June Brown, daughter of the late Thomas Akins and Nola Craft Akins, was born on June 29, 1931 at Bernie and died in the Saint Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on March 17, 2008 at the age of 76.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, a former employee of Elder Manufacturing Company, retired from Purolator Filter Company and was a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to James Elvis Brown on April 15, 1953 at Bernie and to this union, four sons were born. Mr. Brown preceded her in death on April 26. 1986.

She is survived by four sons, Scott Brown, Tom Brown and Rick Brown all of Dexter and Alan Brown of Sikeston; by three brothers, Leonard Akins of Montgomery, Ill, Bob Akins of Burton, Mich. and Donald Akins of St. Charles, Ill; by two sisters, Barbara McGowen of Victoria, Texas and Bea Summers of Fenton; and by three grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, R.V. Craft.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lonny Mittag officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
