Wendall Dowdy, son of the late C.T. Dowdy and Edna Funkhouser Dowdy, was born on Aug. 19, 1934, at Dexter and died in the Golden Living Center at Dexter on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the age of 73.

Mr. Dowdy was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was employed by Elder Manufacturing Company in Dexter for 34 years, a former employee of the First Baptist Church in Dexter for nine years. He helped in the formation of the Dexter Little League Baseball program and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Eva Mae Carson on Nov. 29, 1952, at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Dowdy survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Larry Lee Dowdy of Fulton and Jimmy Glen Dowdy of Dexter; one daughter, Kathy Jean Roberts of Evansville, Ind.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
