Theron Long

Theron C. Long, son of the late James Albert and Helen Grace Parrott Long, was born at Bloomfield on March 27, 1916, and died at Close To Home in Matthews on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the age of 92.

Mr. Long had spent his life in the Bloomfield community. He was a member of St. Joe General Baptist Church in Idalia and taught Sunday School for several years. He was a 50 year member of Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #153 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis, and served on the board of the Bluff and Ellis Cemetery Association.

Theron retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad in 1976 after over 40 years of service. On June 8, 1935, he was married to Edna Robinson, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2007. To this union, 12 children were born.

Theron is survived by nine children, Theron Cleveland (Marg) Long of O'Fallon, Shannon J. Heilman of Bloomfield, Sandra Jean (James) Mowry of Cherryville, Robert Lee Long of Granite City, Ill., Daniel Michael Long of Bloomfield, William Ernest (Crol) Long of Bloomfield, Darrol Kent (Linda) Long of Bloomfield, Patricia Ann (Dennis) Charest of St. Louis, Robin Craig Long of Bloomfield; 35 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Mary Helen Wilson of Madison Heights, Mich.

Theron was preceded in death by one son, John Albert Long; and two daughters, Shirley Jolene Angel and Linda Joyce Courtemanche; one son-in-law, Smokey Heilman; and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Long. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Byron and Cecil Long; and one sister, Alberta Crowe.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Dan Sitze and Rev. Don Cooper officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bluff Cemetery at Idalia.

The family has asked that donations be made to St. Joe General Baptist Church at Idalia.
