Susie Cox Griffin

Susie Mae Pruitt Cox Griffin, daughter of the late Ambrose Lewis Pruitt and Alluan Mae Hull Pruitt was born on April 14, 1915 in Stoddard County and died in the Saint Francis Nursing Home in Memphis, Tenn. on April 15, 2008 at the age of 93.

Mrs. Griffin was a home-maker, a former resident of Dexter and was a current resident of Memphis, Tenn.

She was first united in marriage to Linus Doyle Cox on August 16, 1933 at Essex. Mr. Cox preceded her in death on January 31, 1943. She was then married to Amos Floyd Griffin on June 24, 1944. Mr. Griffin also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Linus J. Cox of Arlington, Tenn and Sammy Griffin of Arab, Ala.; by one daughter, Sylvia Griffin of Memphis, Tenn.; by four grandchildren, Michael J. Cox, Mark H. Cox, Randy Griffin and Ronnie Griffin; by seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Cox, Corey Cox, Whitney Cox, Nathan Cox, Kaitlyn Griffin, Laura Griffin and Nadia Griffin.

Besides her husbands and parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Pruitt, Delmer Pruitt and Dale Pruitt; by five sisters, Ada Cotner, Sylvia Oldham, Ellen Blansett, Dollie Saltzman and Ollie Lee.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Karen Oldham officiating. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
