Holden carded a round of 1-over-par 73 to win medalist honors by one stroke, while the Bearcats were edged out of a second place finish by one-stroke. Lindbergh High School out of St. Louis took top team honors with a four-score 18-hole total of 330, followed by Cape Central with 340 and Dexter at 341.
Farmington finished fourth at 345 and Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape was fifth at 349. Twenty schools (99 golfers) took part in the tournament.
Lindbergh's Tommy Wuennenberg was second in individual scoring with 74.
"If you had told me that someone could shoot a 73 and only win by one stroke, with that wind we had today (Thursday), I wouldn't have believed it," Dexter coach Eric Sitze said. "Playing the blue tees, and playing it down, that was just a phenomenal round Chance put together."
Holden, who recently set the nine-hole school record at Hidden Trails Clountry Club with a round 3-under-par 33, opened his round with a double bogey, but fought back to stay at just two over until he birdied his last hole. The birdie also helped lock up his one-stroke medalist victory.
Holden was finding the green for the most part in regulation and was able to avoid 3-0putting, a problem that many of the golfers encountered.
Dexter also counted scores by senior Dillon Demaree (84), Jon Bowman (90) and Blake Cox (94).
"Dillon's 84 was a real solid round," Sitze said. "Jon (Bowman) had about three bad holes, and one of those was a mental mistake when he tried to play the ball out of the tall native grass when he could have played it as a hazard and took a penalty.
"We still haven't put our best four rounds together yet, but we're getting closer," he continued. "And that's good with districts just right around the corner."
Two of the team Dexter finished just in front of, Farmington and Notre Dame, are both district opponents. The district will be contested at Eagle Lake in Farmington.
Dexter has had a busy week, playing Tuesday at Dalhousie against Saxony Lutheran and Advance and Wednesday at Cape Country Club in a duel match against the Central Tigers.
Tuesday Dexter posted a score of 169 to soundly defeat Saxony Lutheran (190) and Advance (208).
The Bearcats did drop their second match of the season against Cape where the Tigers posted a 156-167 decision.
Dexter's currently supports a 10-2 season record in match play.
