Fifteen-year-old Steven Harrellson of Dexter received his Eagle Scout Award on Sunday, April 6 at a ceremony held at Wesley Hall in Dexter.

"Only one in four boys in America will become scouts," said Scoutmaster Robert Martin during the presentation, "but of the leaders of this nation in business, religion and politics, three out of four are scouts and only two out of every 100 boys will attain the rank of Eagle."

Harrellson currently holds the position as Senior Patrol Leader and has earned 37 merit badges, 16 more than are required for Eagle. His areas of focus have included music, art, railroading, aviation, communications, swimming and citizenship.

For his accomplishment, Harrellson was also presented with resolutions from both the House and the Senate from Sen. Rob Mayer.

Harrellson's Eagle project was spotlighted in an earlier feature in the Daily Statesman and involved the construction of an outdoor classroom on the grounds of T.S. Hill Middle School.

Addressing the crowd on hand for his achievement, Eagle Scout Harrellson was quick to thank the adult leaders of Troop 200 and thanked his parents, teachers and local merchants who helped on his project through donated materials.

Rev. Lex Horner, Harrellson's grandfather, offered the benediction and the colors were presented and retired by Troop 200's Honor Guard.
