Dexter's Lady Bearcats were clicking on all cylinders Monday, pitching, hitting and defense.

The combination practically ended the game before it started Monday as Dexter defeated the visiting Portageville Lady Bulldogs, 15-0, in three innings.

Stephanie Jackson threw a no-hitter for her three innings of work, the defense played flawless ball and the Lady 'Cats banged out 11 hits in just two innings at the plate.

Jackson only allowed one walk and struck out the side in the third to bring her strikeout total for the game to five.

Elizabeth Gilliam was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady 'Cats offensively while Amanda Dooley and Brittney Lewis each had two. Dooley's limited day at the plate also included four RBI to lead the team. In all, seven Dexter batters collected at least one hit.

Dexter scored 12 runs in the first inning, as it was one of those days where it seemed every hit found an opening in the Lady Bulldogs' defense.

Dexter tacked on three more tallies in the second, and when Jackson set the Lady Bulldogs down in order in the third, the game was called because of the three inning, 15-run rule.

Lindsey Ferrell took the loss for Portageville as the Lady Bulldogs slipped to 1-6 on the season.

With the win, Dexter improved to 6-1 on the year.

The Lady Bearcat will next be in action Wednesday at Bloomfield in a rematch of the two teams in the SCAA tournament's championship game. Dexter won that meeting, 3-1. Game time is scheduled for 4 o'clock.

I've never seen such a good group of dedicated and hard working girls as the Lady Bulldogs, and just look at Stephane Jackson,Shes already a professional pitcher.

Hooray girls......

It would effect very few if any. DHS has had 30+ girls tryout for softball the last few years and few if any play the other sports. DHS is a large enough school to support a fall program without affecting the other sports. Many schools smaller than DHS in our area play fall ball and make it work. It will take someone in the system with the desire to support softball like the other sports and build the program. This is one of the best teams that DHS has had in years, it is a shame that the only opportunity for recognition they will receive is an occasional article in the newspaper.

I agree, I do wish Dexter was able to play in districts. I am sure it would be difficult with volleyball, tennis and cross country. But how many of the players would it really effect? Its not fair to the girls who could be playing college ball but don't get the attention because its too late in the year and most colleges already have their scholorships filled.

Dexter should look impressive in the Spring. Until they play in the fall and pick up Notre Dame, Jackson, Kelly, and Cape Central....our girls will and should look impressive. I feel sorry for this group of girls who aren't able to compete for a District title in the sport they love.
