Mr. Hume had lived in Dexter most of his life. He was a charter member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter where he had served as a deacon for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
On Oct. 3, 1942, he was married to Ava Geneva Asbell in Dexter.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Hume of Dexter; one granddaughter, Lori Buck of Dexter; one great-grandson, Keiton Buck of Dexter; one foster son and family, Chris and Michelle Cannon and Christopher Cannon, all of Dexter; one sister, Ivy Lyles of Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Duane Hume on Oct. 25, 1972; two sisters, Ollie Maze and Viola Griffin; and three brothers, Earl Hume, Luther Hume and Leslie Hume.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Josh Carpenter of Dexter officiating.
Interment will follow in Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield.
