Edgar Lee Nichols, son of the late William Edgar and Eula Mae Crane Nichols, was born at Minden, La., on April 6, 1920, and died at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the age of 88.
Mr. Nichols had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1999, and he was a retired Pentecostal minister, a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended the Bible Tabernacle Church in Bloomfield. On June 21, 1951, he was married to Bessie Chudej, and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2000.
Survivors include one son, John David Nichols of Dexter; one daughter, Priscilla Nichols of Bloomfield; one brother, Tommy Nichols of Roseville, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Gormen of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Susie Hipps of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Paul Edgar Nichols.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Cotus James officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Bloomfield with military rites by the Stoddard County Honor Guard.
