FARMINGTON -- Dexter sophomore Chance Holden tied for first place at the Class 3, District 1 golf tournament at Crown Point Golf Club in Farmington, while the Bearcats finished second as a team.
With the win, Holden advanced to the state tournament, May 12-13 at Rivercut Golf Club in Springfield.
Holden carded an even-par round of 72. Only three golfers broke 70 at the tournament.
"I don't know how they shot even par," Dexter coach Eric Sitze said. "The course played really tough, incredibly tough. The course was very wet, and we had to play had to play the ball up, and the wind was really blowing. It was the worse weather conditions I can remember at the district tournament."
It was the third tournament of the season won by Holden, who earlier this season set a new school record with a nine-hole score of 3-under-par 33 at Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter, the Bearcats' home course.
Holden is the fourth Dexter golfer since 1999 to win a district golf title. Other past champions include Brett Hale, Dax Demaree and Andrew Stuever.
As a team, Dexter posted a 357 total to edge out Cape Girardeau Notre Dame, which posted a 359. Farmington won the team event with a score of 324.
Other Dexter scores included Matt Miller's 94, Jon Bowman's 95 and Dillon Demaree's 96. Blake Cox's round of 106 was the score Dexter threw out.

Way to go Coach Sitze and the boys.
