A tough 6-2 loss to Twin Rivers in extra innings Tuesday had the Lady Bearcats ready to take their frustrations out on someone. Unfortunately for Bernie, it was the youthful Lady Mules who were next in line.

Dexter scored in every inning and brought the game to an end early with seven runs in the fourth as the Lady Bearcats defeated the Lady Mules on the road, 19-1, Wednesday in a SCAA game shortened by the mercy rule.

"We played really well today (Wednesday)" Dexter coach Tammy Crowley said. "We were hitting well and playing solid defense."

Junior Alannah Duley allowed just one hit and picked up the win for Dexter as the Lady 'Cats improved to 11-2 (6-0) on the season.

Bernie (3-8, 0-3) was caught short-handed for the game when the team's only two upper classmen were absent because of a school trip to see a Cardinals baseball game.

"We pretty much fielded a team of all freshmen, but that's not a good excuse," Bernie coach Jeff Rodgers said. "The only good thing was that a couple of freshmen pitchers got some work."

Dexter suffered its second loss of the season against the Lady Royals Tuesday.

Dexter fell behind early, but runs by Chelsie Rice and Amanda Dooley tied the game at 2-all in the sixth.

Dexter pitcher Stephanie Jackson and the Dexter defense held in the seventh to send the game into extra innings, but it was the Lady Royals that seized the advantage.

"We played very well defensively up until the eighth inning," Crowley pointed out.

"We had a couple of errors, a walk and a hit batter, so it wasn't our best inning of the season. But I was really proud of the girls.

"We knew Twin Rivers was going to be one of our toughest games and we came out and made it very competitive," she continued. "It took us awhile to catch up with their pitcher who threw hard, but we started to connect late in the game."
