* Is it true that a TV station is coming to Dexter?
Bill Hampton has confirmed that YHC (Your Hometown Channel) will be housed in the old Metro building in downtown Dexter and plans are for them to be fully operational by September 1, 2008. YHC is perhaps better known as Channel 21 and Hampton says they will occupy about 60 percent of the upper floor of the Metro.
* What's up with the piles of dirt in the median between Dexter and Bloomfield?
According to spokesperson Tamara Walker with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), the mounds of dirt on the median of Highway 25 are being used to repair roadways damaged from the recent flooding. An example locally would be the repair work on Highway AF just out of the city limits. Tons of dirt were hauled by MODOT to the site to fill in the shoulder that had fallen away from the March flood waters. MODOT will utilize the dirt in coming months as they continue repair work in the area.
* What was the starting lineup, offensive and defensive, of the 1970-71 Bearcat football team?
This was a bit more difficult to answer than previous questions. While it wasn't any trouble to locate a 1970 DHS yearbook from the high school archives, its pages do not actually specify, of course, who comprised the starting lineup. We can cite several good prospects that include Terry Gibson, Bruce Hindman, Lan Rendleman, Dale Williams, Dan Smith, John Hill, Denny Christian, Rick Barber, Rick Williams, Curtis McClard, Terry Shelby, Larry Jones, Richard Breland, Mike Chasteen, David Mathis, Greg Matthews, David Ayers, Mike Ward, Don Allen, Allan England, Barry Buchanon, Jerry Christian and Ken Kiersey and David Ayers. How's that for "starters?"
Questions that are submitted by Tuesday of each week will be considered for inclusion in the following Sunday's edition. The newsroom will supply answers to questions selected by the staff, so we area asking county residents or even distant friends, to think about a question that you've been tossing around in your mind....and ask us!

Will Jack's Gas station in Dexter be reopening?
Thanks for getting the football team question in there. There are quite a few Bearctas still living in town...Dr. David Mathis immediately comes to mind and I know all the other guys as well. What a year that was. I don't believe there has been a better team, before or after, that great bunch of players.
Of course..Dexter still has the best cross-country runner to come out of town also...Class of '72. That would be Mr. Yewell "Buddy" Lawrence Jr., Attorney at Law, and also the attorney for the City of Dexter. Buddy used to run away with every cross-country meet...and trained religiously throughtout the year. He used to run out Grant Road early in the morning and then do another 8-10 miles in the afternoons I believe.
Those were great times back then and it is wonderful that Dexter has managed to keep a firm grasp on the important things in life...the kids, education, neighbors, church, and taking care of each other.
I don't think Boonesfarm Strawberry Hill is as popular now as it was then. One of the guys with a big trunk...like Larry Smith (died in Vietnam)or Gerald Sifford (1969 Roadrunner, big trunk) would drive to Tennessee on Friday and fill up and sell it for $3 a bottle....BUT..that is a story for another time. But, I am here to tell you that we could really fly on those gravel roads.
Go Bearcats!!!!!
