Dexter man dies of injuries

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

It was learned Monday that Donald Glantz, Jr., the 47-year-old Dexter man who was critically injured in a bicycle accident a week ago on May 5, died Sunday evening in a Memphis hospital.

Glantz was riding a bicycle in the area of Chautauqua Street when, according to Dexter Police, he ran into the edge of a concrete drive and was thrown from the bike, suffering severe head injuries. He was taken by ambulance from the scene of the accident and airlifted from Dexter Municipal Airport to a Memphis trauma unit where he underwent surgery the day following the accident. Family members report that Glantz never regained consciousness after the wreck.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but will appear in the Daily Statesman as they are made available.

Well I didn't know the guy and I don't know what happened. I did see the bicycle in the ditch that night and the accident scene. I don't believe he was hit and I really hope that he wasn't. I am very saddened to hear of his untimely departure. My prayers are with his family in this sad and painful time and I want them to know that. No tragedy is ever understood. I guess the only thing one can say is GOD must have been ready to have his angel with him.
