Roy Arthur Boyle

Roy Arthur Boyle, son of the late Luther Eli Boyle and Rosa Mae Hawkins Boyle, was born on Feb. 3, 1925, at Hattieville, Ark., and died in the Malden Nursing Center on Friday, May 16, 2008, at the age of 83.

Mr. Boyle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bernie, a member of the Bernie Masonic Lodge #573, a farmer, a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II and a resident of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Lillie Marie Walker on June 6, 1943, at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Boyle preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1983. He then married Marjetta Massingill Bryan on Feb. 8, 1985. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1999.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerlyn and Kathy Boyle of Bernie; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, J.M. Boyle, L.E. Boyle, Bill Boyle, Gordon Boyle, I.G. Boyle, and Dick Boyle; and one sister, Ruth Shelton.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Tim Ingle officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors.
