Leon Sides, son of the late Columbus Lincoln and Hattie Sides, was born in Peru, Ind., on June 10, 1922, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Monday, June 9, 2008, at the age of 85.
Mr. Sides had lived in Dexter most of his life.
In 1971, he was married to Almeta Dowdy. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2001.
Surviving are six daughters, Brenda Brown of Roanoke, Ind., Glenda Horine of Upland, Ind., Sharon Goings of Gas City, Ind., LaVeta Byrd of Fort Stewart, Ga., Norma Lawhorn of Dexter, Rita Clawson of Dexter; two sons, Everett Lee Sides of Anderson, Ind., and Billy Mitchell of Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lavern of California and Hazel Rodgers of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elver and Elsie.
Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Jim Hoyt of Poplar Bluff officiating.
Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
