The SEMO Democrat rural caucus gathered Saturday for what is their largest annual event.
Every Missouri Democrat who is anyone came out for the annual rally that was held for the second year in a row at the Dexter Elks Lodge.
Attorney General and gubernatorial hopeful Jay Nixon, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and Missouri Democrat Party Chairman John Temporiti were all in attendance just to name a few.

"It's been really fascinating to travel all of the corners of this state," Nixon told the crowd of more than 400 people as he proclaimed that Missouri needs change.
"Both [Republican] candidates have fully embraced the ideals of Matt Blunt that so divided this great state," he said. "They've had four years to try and fix education, health care and jobs and they haven't done it."
Nixon said that so far during the gubernatorial race he has been fortunate to watch the Republicans spend money battling each other while he enjoys a double-digit lead in the polls.
He said he knows the attacks will soon be coming for him, but says he's ready for the long fight.
"Right now is the time to move forward from the policies that have so failed our people," Nixon said.
U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) also spoke for a few moments on the current political climate across the country.
"We've got a challenge this year, just as we always do in Missouri," she said. "This is the heart and soul of America."
McCaskill went on to speak about her support of Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and her admiration of Sen. Hillary Clinton for the campaign she ran.
"I told her when she came back to the Senate this week that there is not a woman in America who isn't proud of you," she said.
Carnahan, Temporiti, Auditor Susan Montee and Congressional candidate for the 8th District Joe Allen also made remarks at the rally.
Also at the rally, State Rep. Tom Todd and Rep. Steve Hodges presented resolutions from the state House of Representatives and the Senate in memory of the late Luther Warren 'Lew' Maddox, a former representative.
Accepting the award on behalf of his grandfather was Jason Maddox. Maddox's wife and granddaughters were also present for the acceptance.
Later in the evening it was announced that $527 had been raised in the 50/50 drawing. The winner of the raffle donated all of the money to the candidates.

Neat.....nice to see Liberals invading the area. Nixon will be our next Governor thanks to no one worthwhile choosing to run against him. Oh, and thanks to St. Louis and KC who by themselves can elect Liberals. You would think it couldn't get much worse than Matt Blunt, but it can and will. Mark it down, your taxes will go up, not down. And also mark it down, NOT ONE of the things Jay Nixon states are broken and have not been fixed, will be fixed under him either. Got to love politicians.
Hoon, I am afraid you're right. Nixon probably will be our next Governor and it won't be any better. It's amazing to me how all of these people back the Democrat Party, yet all they do is raise taxes. They think they are for the "common people", but that is so far from the truth.
GRIPE, GRIPE about taxes,,, you folks sound like a broken record,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you make a lot of money in this country you are expected to pay a lot of taxes, suck it up and find another dead cow to beat on.
We can never survive another 8 years like the last 8 years. How sorrowful.
Dexterite, we are not a socialist country although that is what you liberals want us to be. Raising taxes to redistribute wealth is a socialistic idea. Taxing someone who makes more money or who has more property is actually a form of penalty on having more. The right to have property and money is in the Constitution. Dexterite, being rich is NOT a sin! Money is not evil. "The love of money is the root of all evil".
I'm an hourly wage worker at Tyson Foods. Thank God Tyson Foods has the money to pay its employees. I have never worked for a poor employer.
McCaskill says that there is not a woman in America not proud of Hillary. What women is she speaking for? Democratic women! Women who are pro-life are not proud of Hillary. Women who believe in private education and homeschooling and the right to choose what kind of education their children should have are not proud of Hillary. Women who believe marriage should be between one woman and one wife and that homosexuals should not be classified as deserving civil rights as civil unions are not proud of Hillary.
The Democratic Party of today is socialistic to the core. From Roosevelt's New Deal, Truman's Fair Deal, Kennedy's New Frontier, and Johnson's Great Society, the Democratic Party platform contains ALL of the platform planks of American socialist parties.
The two Republican candidates Nixon referred to, I assume are Billy Pat Wright and Rob Mayer, both up for reelection. Both men are Pro-Life, believing that abortion is murder of the unborn who unborn babies from conception whether they are wanted or unwanted. Both men are against human cloning for embryonic stem-cell research. Both men are for marriage between one man and one woman and are against gay marrriage. Both are for lowering, not raising taxes.
Without the voice of Liberals there would have been no Social Security, no Medicare Insurance, no Medicaid for the ones who need it, check the records. This nation would be in poverty without the Soc Security program.
Without the Union movement in this country we would all be earning 50 cents an hour.
Swift, I think you're right on. It is absolutely unfair to expect the wealthy to pay more taxes than the poor. It should all be a percentage, which would make it fair for everyone. Of course some people don't see it that way.
And the whole union movement and 50 cents an hour. That may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard, seriously. When unions first formed they actually had good intent, such as a safer workplace and more reasonable working hours for the employees. But now the present day unions restrict employers and allow the employees to be lazy. That my friend, is not good for America or the economy.
GOOD GRIEF.
Splinter issues, but I notice that Billy Pat does have the endorsement of MSTA.
Ooops, by the time I posted, there were five more comments before me! How does this work, anyway??
Has anybody read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair?
Pretty grim before labor unions.
I have not read The Jungle, but listen to Welcome to the Jungle each day as I wake. Dexerite is smarter than you guys........George Bush is the devil and any liberal Democrat is a hero. By the way, was the Maddox kid an All State Bearcat back in the day? Looks just like a kid I remember playing in the early 90's.....slow as mud, but could play a little. Anyone remembering the name, fill me in......
Now, back to the topic, which is basically Dexterite likes receiving handouts, unions, abortion, immediate withdrawal of troops (except the ones Bill Clinton placed in regions for humanitarian purposes), harboring illegals and granting instant citizenship, increased minimum wage, gay marriage, affirmative action, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, future President Barack Hussein Obama, radical animal rights, wackO environmental policies, and rejecting anything coming from anyone he/she perceives is slightly conservative.
These are the same tired comments from both sides of the aisle...and nobody is getting it done! Why??? Because the system is broken and anyone worth anything isn't dumb enough to run under these terrible conditions.
The intent of our democracratic republic was for respected individuals to represent their community; serve and then come home. Unfortunately it has evolved into career politicians spending the brunt of their time chasing money from special interests to fund their next campaign. That makes it hard to lose and even harder to see sound policy.
If we want results, we better look deeper than what is on this blog. And don't forget while we squabble about, terrorists are plotting to take down the only superpower left. That's us people...all of us.
Well said staley, that herion didn't hurt you as bad as I thought. Hoon, I think I might know who you are talking about and man was he slow.
Hoon....well put, and as you can read, I am not a fan of any of today's politicians due to much of what you squabble about. Dextermite will have no idea what you are saying, but chances are, the rest of us get it to some degree. So, you making a donation to help Hillary pay back her 22 Mil she is in debt?
Although Hoon usually puts it well also, that last post should have read.....Layne Staley, well put. He ALWAYS puts it well......
Goat -
Actually I have read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair - great read - if you want to throw up. Only kidding a little, pretty disgusting book. Now, since we are agreeing on so much these days, have you carefully studied the words of one Axl Rose in his masterpiece Welcome to the Jungle? The two actually go hand in hand.
Layne - agree wholeheartedly on the need for major change -
who is going to get it done? don't know myself. Used to think I was a liberal - still think I am in some ways - but hate the label - it forces you to be "cookie cutter" on all opinions as does the label "conservative" and I am too human for that. I think I could write a song about this. Love the political discussion though - one of my favorite topics.
Shannon and BonScott have pretty well given us a good conservative primer on this. On July 3 and 4, 1776 our nation declared its independence from a tyrannical tax hungry government. If dexterite had been alive back then, he'd be saying, "Gripe, Gripe about taxes, you folks sound like a broken record,.." Guess what? It was landowners who paid unfair taxes who left their farms to fight the War for Independence! The taxes they were paying were low compared to what property owners, business owners, etc. are paying today. A fair tax is a percentage across the board, just as BonScott said.
Gl, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on some of these things. I think you're the only one who's bothered to check out my blog on ourcampaigns.com. I enjoy your comments tho, and no I haven't read Jungle. I need to check it out here at the Dexter Library which is where I'm at on the computer.
Gl, is MSTA a union or just an association? I've heard it's relatively conservative.
Bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liberal? What issues? Fill me in man. Not the same Darrel I knew pondering issues at Hart's Gulley on our way to Western Auto. I can't see you and Dexterite hanging out, unless of course it would be in the mosh pit at a Screaming Trees gig.
Swift: MSTA is a teacher's union. MUCH MUCH less liberal than NEA, which is ridiculous. I know of nothing MSTA does to help the education process. They get their members out of fear and offer 1 Million in liability coverage. So most teachers, and rightfully so, join for that reason. Before the goat and/or anyone else jumps on, please honestly fill me in IF there are other things that these teachers unions do to help out teachers or the education process.
Well put Lizard King. I don't think staley or hoon could have said it any better. dexterite is going to get the roadhouse blues after that one.
Without the Union movement in this country we would all be earning 50 cents an hour.

Without the Union movement, we would all be getting paid based on our performance, which would encourage us all to work a little smarter and harder.
Kevin71
Is that caption wrong - it says Jason Maddox but it looks like a guy from Dexter that may have been on the basketball team when I was in school, anyone know?
Since Dexterite's comment from earlier today mysteriously reappeared, I've got something to say about the Union thing.
I've never been in a Union and the least I ever made was like $6.50 per hour doing summer jobs and up to well above average per year working for someone. I've made better on my own. So, how did the Union help me? The Union has never had a hand in anything I've ever done.
Most morons that vote in a union these days don't realize that the extra money they make barely covers their union fees. Although, there are few exceptions.
I still can't decide if Dexterite is a true Dummycrap or just yanking everyone's chain with his/her uneducated comments.
Never found it necessary to defend myself from mindless individuals who love to jump to conclusions, never received anything for what I didnt work or earn, that's the biggest problem in the USA today, folks jumping too soon and not knowing where they will land.
Enjoy your day, if that's possible.
Darrel.....read entire blog. I thought the same thing and asked for a name to put with the player. I know it isn't Chris Boggess because he was a beanpole.
Dexterite....we enjoy every day.
Oh, and Lizard King....Dexterite is, in Mike Patton's words, the Real Thing.
Sorry hoon - now I see it - Was it Jody something?
dimebag and hoon, I think the guy you're talking about is ole' Zeek. Man could he rebound on just one good ankle.
It was.....Jody? Keep going DD. I hate when I know something and can't remember it.
What you didn't hear at the Democratic Propoganda Spin Rally:
1.The relatively low number of American military casualties compared to the number of American military casualties in each U.S. war fought in the 20th century.
Information from The World Almanac and Book of facts,2008/ Military Affairs/War Casualties
WW1 April 1917-Nov 1918 53,402
WW2 1941-1946 291,557
Korean 1950-1953 33,574
Vietnam Aug1964-Jan1973 47,424
Iraq March2003-June2008 4,113 (St. Louis Post Dispatch July 2,2008 from AP Casualty Data Base)
2. The fact that former President Bill Clinton and most Democratic and Republican members of Congress believed there were WMDs in Iraq , based on military intelligence they had before GW Bush ever campaigned for president. We may not like GW but he had the same misinformation the Democrats and the UN had. Clinton himself said we needed to get rid of Saddam Hussein.
3. How the rights of unborn babies need to be protected by banning abortion except when the life of the mother is in danger and by no longer funding Planned Parenthood. Democrats will tell you they want to keep abortion safe, rare, and legal much like they wanted to keep slavery legal back in the 1800s.
4. The sanctity of marriage between on man and one woman needs to be protected.
5. The need to lower all taxes across the board, including eliminating the archaic county personal property tax.
What you did hear:
1. Briney Welborn attacking Republicans and conservatives in general and especially GW Bush.
2. Bill Burleson calling the War in Iraq "Bush's War" and saying he lied to get us in there because of his ties to oil.
Bill Burleson attacking the Constitutional Republican way of choosing our president via the Electoral College.
3. Many of the speakers calling conservatives "far right extremists" and perhaps comparing them to neo-nazis ( which, by the way is national socialism more akin to the modern Democratic Party)
3.
Dextrite, if you really like a lot of taxes, Canada and Great Britain are good choices!
Folks, I've never worked for a poor person! I've never been in a socialistic labor union! I've always voted agin 'em!
Swift, I like your points. That's good research. I know there are major flaws in both parties but I am going to have to continue leaning to the right until someone really convinces me other wise. I can remember when conservative republicans used to vote both parties, depending on who was running, but now it is almost unheard of because of how liberal the democratic party has gotten. Even if you like the democrat running for office, you don't want to be apart of it. Who knows, maybe we will figure it out by the time we start living on Mars.
Bon.....My Dad said my Grandpa used to vote Democrat back in the day...back when Southern Democrat meant representing the common man. Dad says Grandpa said that he didn't leave the Democratic party, but the Democratic party left him.....
Now, both have idiots and are actually full of idiots.....but choose a side and take a glance at the far reaching ends of both parties and I will take the right each time.
Dexterite…Did you tattle on me to the webmaster for calling out career welfare recipients? Sad, sad, sad. Somebody needs their pacifier. Not only do I have to pay for those lazy bums, now I get in trouble for complaining about it. I knew I should have saved that post that was deleted. I would have reposted it.
Jam on it! Jam on it! Jam on and on, on, and on it!
Hope y'all had a happy July 4th yesterday! My parents were up here from texas. My dad, a died in the wool republican had some good discussion on how ridiculous liberals have become and I mentiopned this website and all. He said he wouldn't go to a Democratic Propoganda Spin Rally. He'd be afraid he'd have a stroke!
Anyway, why was nothing reported about the Republican Party shindig at the Dexter Highschool gymnasium held on the same day same time? Sarah Steelman was there. It was a special bbq for here campaign for governor. Wright and Mayer were special speakers. I didn't go, but I just wonder why nothing was reported.
Jim Morrison why do you have to categorize welfare recipients and and career recipients as lazy bums? Medicaid is welfare and my kids have always had it, but all of my life except for about 8 months of it I have had a full time job and 2 yrs straight of that was 2 full time jobs, being home only long enough to eat, shower and sleep. I currently work 10 hours a day 5 days a week now in a factory and have a second part time job and just recently did a background check, drug test and interview for a 3rd. Obviously you have a few people that you know that get welfare that has ****** you off and you are grouping everyone together, or you just don't know jack. Also, why do you name call when someone disagrees? That's not very indicative of a good debater, I thought that was what forums were about, discussion and debate. All because someone spits out a dumb remark doesn't necessarily mean they're dumb. Even the smartest people occassionally spit out a dumb remark or comment. We are all guilty at one point or another of the "Here's your sign" syndrome whether we are willing to admit it or not.
Swift....likely not reported due to only about 23 people attending. If Steelman, Mayer, and Wright are the best you can do for speakers...that is about the number you should expect to get.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Mike: Here's your sign.
Well, for one thing the Republican shindig charged 12 bucks/person. I didn't attend! Aint got 12 bucks and I'm thinking of voting Constitution Party for governor.
A great example of how dumb the Pubs can be as well. $12 to hear RoMayer and BPW speak? Come on. Again, may be a reason about 23 cars were in the lot.
Jim, no I have never reported anyone FYI. Just got around to reading your comment, if I have anything to say, you'd better believe I'd have the guts to say it to you directly, you people can have this forum,,, name calling isnt my cup of tea.
