Ruth Hazel McCarty, daughter of the late Earl Hobgood and Minnie Belle Jennings Hobgood, was born on March 3, 1922 near Dexter and died at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau on July 3, 2008 at the age of 92.

Mrs. McCarty was a member of the Bernie General Baptist Church, a former employee of Elder Manufacturing Company, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Carnation Chapter #141, where she was the Past Worthy Matron, and a resident of Bernie.

She was united in marriage to D.K. McCarty on January 9, 1943 at Malden and Mr. McCarty preceded her in death on March 8, 1999.

Survivors include one son, Jim McCarty of Sherwood, Arkansas, and one grandson.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Hobgood and by one sister, Gladys Bess.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bernie General Baptist Church.
