Nola "Shorty" Dean

Nola Charlotte "Shorty" Dean, daughter of the late Earl David Nichols and Bertha Estella Brookhart Nichols, was born on June 21, 1924, at Williamstown and died in the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the age of 84.

Prior to moving to Dexter in 2005, Mrs. Dean resided in Fredericktown for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown, a former secretary for the administrator of Madison Memorial Hospital for 13 years, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Max Lee Dean on Oct. 10, 1943, at Williamstown. Mr. Dean preceded her in death on May 11, 1964.

Survivors include a son, Michael Dean and wife Carol of Dexter; a daughter, Sue Dean Hanner and David of Fredericktown; a brother, Earl Junior Nichols of Quincy, Ill.; five grandchildren, Travis Dean of Claremore, Okla., Justin Dean of Perry, Kan., Brian Hanner and Audra Bastie of Fredericktown, and Danielle Yilmaz of Chicago, Ill.; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, in the Clugston, Tibbitts Funeral Chapel at Macomb, Ill.

Interment will follow in the Goodhope Cemetery.
