John Marshall Carrier, 63, of Poplar Bluff, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Carrier, son of the late John William and Bessie Elizabeth (Smith) Carrier, was born April 25, 1945, in Bloomfield. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church where he had worked with the Job Corps ministry and had retired in 1997 from John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff as a registered nurse. Mr. Carrier enjoyed photography, sports, and wood carving.

He was a member of the Wood Carvers Association and a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Era.

On Nov. 9, 1973, he married Susan Cope in Poplar Bluff, and she survives.

Other survivors include his son, James M. "Jim" Carrier of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Norma Lane of Flint, Mich., and Ruth Ham of St. Charles; and three brothers, Elza Leon Carrier of Youngstown, Ohio, Charles E. Carrier of Dexter, and Paul R. Carrier of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mr. Carrier was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Eugene Carrier and James Eldon Carrier.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at the church with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating and Rev. Jim Osborn assisting.

Interment will follow at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
