The local hospital has worked hand-in-hand with the American Red Cross for several years in sponsoring drives to help maintain the blood supply in Southeast Missouri.
In a partnership with the American Red Cross, Missouri Southern Healthcare works throughout the year to continually replenish the blood supply in the area by hosting a number of blood drives. For their dedication in working toward that goal, the Red Cross recently bestowed their "Champion for Life Award" to the local hospital's administrator, Jim Crawford.

"Each year Missouri Southern Healthcare works with the Dexter community to insure that an ample blood supply is on hand in the Southeast Missouri region," said Red Cross Representative Crystal Jones in making the presentation.

"The support of Missouri Southern Healthcare and the local community is truly appreciated," she added.

The award was granted in recognition of efforts for the year 2007, during which a total of 67 units of blood were collected. A goal of 90 units has been set for 2008. The hospital sponsors about four blood drives annually.
